Iran Candelight Vigil 25.06.2009

About 1,000 people met at Breitscheidplatz on Thursday, 26 June to mourn the loss of pro-democracy protesters in Iran. It remains unknown how many have been killed since protests began on 12. June.

English transcription:

Karlos Y: I wish for Iranians everybody has democracy in Iran and their own freedom. It's the best for every Iranian. That's what I wish for. That's why this regime should be gone. For 30 years we've been suffering under this regime; the Iranians don't want that any more.

Djaira Y: We're mourning because young people are sacrificing their lives just because they want to express their opinions, because they want to exercise their right to vote, because they are resisting the regime. This isn't about Moussavi that's not my opinion, although it's often presented that way in the media it's simply about the right to criticize the Islamic republic.

Gholamreza Lofti: My hope for these people in the entire world: that in Iran resistance will be made every day, and European people, and America, will help Iran, until Iran has freedom.

Vera: It's difficult... I would say to them they should hold out, and apparently many, many people are thinking about them, and supporting them.
